To contemplate is to observe cleanly, silently, without letting the mind meddle with its judgments and labels. When I look at someone, I see how all these images appear quietly before me and then enthusiasm emerges, the passion for what it is. In my case, it is at that time (not always, because life is much more mysterious than painting and does not need it) when the spark that ignites the process of painting a picture is lit. In that someone I already see a painting. And I am letting the painting develop its gestation process. As I live encounters, I accumulate embryos of paintings. Most of those “pictures” do not get to see the light, but it helps a few finally be painted. I never know how I am going to paint a picture and it never ends up as I initially saw it.
